His females all have a similar and distinct profile: a prominent nose and chin and slender mouth, creating (what feels like) a concave. I’m hopelessly inept when it comes to technology (I was on the verge of tears after purchasing brushes that came in a zip file, but apparently iPads cannot open zip files?). I have a steep learning curve ahead of me, but am hoping to use this as a tool to fully work out my compositions before tackling them in paint. In 78 days we rode our bicycles across America, fr In 78 days we rode our bicycles across America, from sea to shining sea. We endured arduous climbs and weightless descents. We explored hills and valleys, rivers and high plains. It was long, it was difficult, and in a heartbeat we would do it all over again. The biggest lesson I learned, was that I struggle with pride: I want to do it all by myself and complete the task perfectly. But this journey was very imperfect and God humbled me every single day. I do not like asking for help, but I had to and it was given gladly. So many more of you, new friends and familiar friends, have the gift of anticipating needs. Many of you were busy or far away or strangers. You provided us with food, bicycle maintenance, shelter and ice cream! You donated not only to Miles for Smiles, but to my family as well. This post is for you: I thought of you and thanked God for you with every pedal, every mile. You made this adventure possible. Thank you for your cheers, your prayers, your investment of time and love. If you had not been there, we would have given up in Virginia. So much went wrong, but now I see that it was in our struggles that we were greeted with the most kindness. This past year I have really awakened to the brevi This past year I have really awakened to the brevity and preciousness of life. I want to die with memories, not dreams. Which means, my husband, daughter and I will be bicycling 4200 miles, unsupported, across America. We started in Yorktown, VA and will conclude in Astoria, OR by summer’s end (Lord willing, of course! I’m way too nervous to let pride get in the way). My goals for this endeavor include: -Trusting in God for all my needs -Not letting comfort become my idol -Not letting fear get in the way of doing hard things -Spreading Christ’s love everywhere I go -Savoring each moment, regardless of the circumstances -Raising money to help a friend (please donate/share the link in my bio!) I’ll be posting updates of our adventure here and I hope to encourage you. As Mary Oliver aptly inquires, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” #adventurecycling
For every wedding anniversary, Bryan and I like to For every wedding anniversary, Bryan and I like to share what we’ve learned over the years. Our thoughts this year, after 15 years of marriage... are for the singles! The world will overwhelmingly try to convince you that sex outside of marriage is no big deal....and that is a heartbreaking and ugly lie. Without the promise to each other, the commitment, to be there for better or worse, you are using someone else’s body to satiate your selfishness. That is not love. Only “court” when you are preparing for marriage. Involve your families and trusted friends (who can help hold you accountable). Set ground rules for the relationship. You should never be absolutely alone (that is a gift within marriage). We had a lot of dates just sitting together and talking on the front porch. Just being together was more than enough. Be considerate and honoring in the way you touch. For example, we thought nothing of kissing before our wedding, but when it became a reckless and self-serving act, a boundary we desired to push, we stopped and mutually decided to wait until our wedding day. That doesn’t mean we didn’t make mistakes, we absolutely did, but the beauty of Jesus’ sacrifice is that in Him we are transformed into something new, all our transgressions are washed clean and forgotten. Purity is not about how close you can push boundaries without crossing them; it’s about showing honor, selflessness and sacrifice to the one you love, all of which are things that you will take with you into marriage. Keep God first always. Learn your ordained roles in the relationship. Immerse yourself in the truth of scripture. Do whatever it takes to help your loved one reach eternity. Don’t buy into the world’s lies, or trade treasure for counterfeit. God’s design for marriage and family are precious gifts tenaciously and passionately worth fighting for.
