We are meticulously crafted works of The Creator. We are meticulously crafted works of The Creator. It leads me to wonder if our innate need to create is a reflection of being made in God’s image.

Children, especially, are natural creators. Remember the joy of penning a poem or absentmindedly doodling on the edges of notes during class? Children effortlessly embrace the act of creation, their imaginations boundless. Yet, as we navigate the maze of adolescence, a shift occurs. The desire to create is often suppressed, weighed by self-consciousness, fear of judgment and societal expectations.

For artists, creation is not merely an act; it's daily persistence and raw vulnerability. Unlike many other vocations, where you can punch out at the end of the day, the artist carries a canvas in their mind's eye wherever they go, along with the weight of their dreams and doubts. There's also an insatiable hunger for growth and knowledge, and despair when the artist realizes how little she knows and has yet to learn.

I will never forget my mentor, illuminated in north light, surrounded by his decades of master paintings and accolades, slumped in his chair saying, "I don't know how to paint."

Skies are the portion of the landscape that remain Skies are the portion of the landscape that remain untouched by human hands, and have always been my favorite to paint. It’s easy to forget to look up, to accept our heavens as commonplace, but when it takes seasons for trees or mountains to change, the sky is swift and ephemeral, a dance of light and color. Art has been a journey for me, one that started wi Art has been a journey for me, one that started with the hopeful naivety of an art school graduate. I started out traveling the Midwest exhibiting at art fairs. The realities of the art world hit hard—I could barely make ends meet, even when living in an inner-city, moldy one-bedroom apartment for $450 a month, where the neighbor's cigarette smoke would drift through the air vents (luckily, I was a newlywed and love can cover a multitude of wrongs!).

During that first summer, a soft-spoken couple became a constant presence at my art booth. Their ritual was simple yet profound—they gravitated toward the same small painting each time, exchanging silent glances of appreciation with me before quietly departing. As the season unfolded, that particular painting remained unsold, and I planned to gift it to them as a token of gratitude. Unfortunately, however, our paths never crossed again.

This encounter left an indelible mark on me—a testament to the power of art to connect. I've carried that sentiment forward, nurturing a special fondness for those who recognize the vulnerability in what I create and yearn to bring a piece of my world into theirs.

Art is not a luxury reserved for the elite; it's a thread that weaves through the fabric of our shared human experience. Jordan Peterson aptly described it as a "domain into the transcendent." While art may not be a necessity in the strictest sense, it transforms our world from the mundane to the extraordinary. Picture our existence stripped of art—a banal, colorless landscape, devoid of the emotion and beauty that makes life rich.

This is why I'm passionate about making art accessible to everyone. Affordability should not be a barrier to experiencing the profound impact of art. It's about inviting all walks of life to engage with the extraordinary, to find solace, inspiration, and connection in a world where art is a reflection of our shared humanity.
